Quarter Press

Full details What’ve you got to show us? A Book-Length Work We love book-length novels and collections targeted at any age bracket, so long as they contain fantastical elements. While leaning towards the darker side, we’re not against the lighter fair, either. And while we may consider High Fantasy, you’re much more likely to get an acceptance with a story grounded in reality. Art If you’re down to work with us and would be interested in illustrating a project with us, then send us a link to your Portfolio or Instagram. Our current model is to match up artists with “the right” project. This could be anything from a novel to a board game to a short zine. (And it may no...

Knight Errant Press

Full details  We are open for submissions.    To get an idea of the kind of work we are looking to publish, please see the guidelines below, have a look at our books and peruse the reading list from our team.   We are looking to embrace our LGBTQI+ roots and want to read submissions by LGBTQI+ writers, preferably featuring queerness and queer characters. We want to hear from LGBTQI+ writers who are Q/BPOC, working class, disabled and neurodivergent.   This year we are intrigued to read more trans prose, horror, climate fiction, sapphic prose, sexy LGBTQI+ stories and science fiction and fantasy.    We like accessible writing, a plot or a narrative voice that keeps us up at night and characters and ideas that stick with us long after the last page of the book. And we like a dash of humour, although being funny isn’t compulsory.   We accept submissions written in Scots and English. We are also open to consideri...

Graphic fiction/non-fiction also welcome, but it must fit on a postcard.  We publish only one (1!) piece in print form each month– we publish 1-4 pieces in our online issue. We accept work on a rolling basis–you can expect to hear from us within a month to six months if we’re on schedule, which we are about 50% of the time. Even though it might take us a short spell to get back to you, we try to offer personal feedback – especially upon request. ALL PROSE: <150 words. We’re not going to count them, but…we mean it. ALL POETRY: <10 lines (if it’s more, be open to “creative reformatting”), but still <150 words.  Remember, it has to fit on a postcard! Markosia

Full details Markosia are now accepting comics submissions for works that have been previously unpublished in the UK. We are particularly interested in Sci-Fi, Fantasy, All-Ages and Historical stories. If you feel your comic doesn’t fit into this don’t worry, we will still look at all submissions. Preference will be given to projects that have all creative team members in place. It can be very time consuming finding artists, colourists and letterers for individual scripts. Markosia works on a profit share basis . We take a share of the profits, then you are responsible for deciding how any remaining profits are split between your teams (unless it’s just you doing the entire thing, then you keep It all!). If we are interested in your project you will firstly be required to sign an NDA while negotiations take place. This way we can deal with any enquiries or questions before you commit to a contract with us. Afterwards, when the book is confirmed, you will be required to ...

Deadstar Publishing

Full details We publish short story compilations, novels, comics and graphic novels and accept submissions for all of these things. Our focus is on horror, fantasy, modern fantasy, historical fantasy and science fiction and submissions should be sent to  submissions@deadstarpublishing.co.uk Below are our guidelines for artists, authors and teams as well as a breakdown on what we like to see in a submission. If we decide to take a piece we will issue a contract to all parties who will be involved in the production of a work, and payment is usually made on a royalties system with pay-outs in January and July of each year. We’ve been asked many times over the years so feel it is worth clarifying: we are not a vanity press and will not charge creators to publish their works. For pieces that we choose to publish we cover all overheads including editing, production, distribution and marketing (though with the nature of marketing these days, creators who a...

No Brow

Full details Please read the guidelines below carefully to avoid ineligibility and to maximise your chances of working with us. In general, there are three golden rules that you should follow: Know what you want from us. We are a publisher, not an illustration agency! You should have a specific type of work collaboration in mind when you submit work to us. In other words: would you like to submit a picture book for consideration? Or perhaps a graphic novel? Or maybe a non-fiction picture book for children? Whatever it is you submit, make sure it is in line with something that we actually do. Be clear and concise. We have to sift through a lot of submissions, so please try to be clear and to the point in your pitch, whatever it may be. If you have a long manuscript or a long form graphic novel to submit, or even a completed picture book – that is fine, please send it in attachment. However, in your email please provide us with a brief summary and overview of your ...

Greenhouse

The publishing industry is tough and competition is fierce, so we look for outstanding voices – for writing that’s fresh, original and effective. Most of all, we seek potential. We specialize in writing for children and teens: picture book author/illustrators with texts of less than 1000 words; high-concept/character-led chapter-book series; middle grade novels; graphic novels for a young readership; young-adult novels; select non-fiction proposals. Additionally, we are now opening to very select women’s fiction (see our new agent Chelsea Eberly’s bio/wishlist here ). Please note: We are NOT looking for picture book texts (ie, by writers who aren’t also illustrators), short stories, educational or religious/inspirational work, poetry, pre-school/novelty material or screenplays. Unless we have specifically requested them, we will also delete any emails sent with attachments or with links to work . Here is the procedure to follow if you want to submit your work to Greenhouse...
