Full details  The Society of Authors is one of the few organisations to make grants to writers for works in progress, currently awarding over £360,000 each year. The Authors’ Foundation and K Blundell Trust award grants to writers whose book project is for a commercial UK publisher. The Authors’ Foundation Award came at a time when I was finding it difficult funding the research and travel involved. It was also difficult finding the time to write as I needed to hustle to care for my family. Life in Nigeria is difficult at this time, more so for writers/artists as there are no support platforms as this. The grant from the Society of Authors provided me with all the support I needed . I completed the manuscript (127,000 words long) in record time. So, I am indeed indebted and grateful to the Society of Authors for this support without which it would have been difficult and nearly impossible to finish my manuscript in the same year as I started it.  Full details  Our grant fund is named in affectionate memory of David Pease, Arvon’s National Director from 1973-2000, who ‘grew Arvon from a small charity to a national literature organisation’. David was committed to ensuring an Arvon course should be available to as many people as possible, and it was under his visionary leadership that the grant fund was created. For our online and in-person writing weeks and weekends, we offer a  Low Income Grant. If you couldn’t attend an Arvon course without some financial help, we encourage you to apply. With Low Income Grants, you can apply for any amount up to the full course fee. Arvon Low Income Grants are now available for residential and online courses running  April-June 2024 only.  See our terms and conditions and application form further down this page.   Full details  Peggy Ramsay was one of the best-known play agents in the United Kingdom during the second half of the Twentieth Century.  When she died in 1991 her estate was left for charitable purposes to help writers and writing for the stage.  The Peggy Ramsay Foundation was established in pursuance of this objective.   The Peggy Ramsay Foundation seeks to perpetuate Peggy Ramsay’s ideals, by directly helping dramatists at very different stages of experience in ways which we are determined to keep as quick and unbureaucratic as possible.
