Do you have a breathtaking project you would like to work on during your residency in Prague? Prague City of Literature offers an opportunity to writers and translators to live and work in the beautiful city center where historical architecture meets modern and vibrant city life.

This call goes for eight two-month residencies in 2025 which will be held in:

  • January–February
  • March–April
  • May–June
  • July – August
  • September – October
  • November – 15th December

The call for applications closes August 20, 2024, 11.59 pm CET .

The results will be announced on October 31, 2024.

Required documents:

  • completed application form
  • optional: Extract from a published text (in Czech or in English) or sample of a translated text into Czech; max 2 pages

Selection criteria:

  • Basic knowledge of the English language
  • At least one published literary work (not a private edition) or two broadcast or published radio dramas or one carried out or published theater play or at least one translated work of a Czech author
  • Willingness to participate in the local literary life (author readings, meeting students, talks, activities arranged by the receiving institution or connected to the cultural events of the city)
  • Working on the writings during the stay
  • Cultural interest for the location
  • The author who has already received the scholarship once cannot apply again
  • The Resident undertakes that in the course of the residential stay or no later than within 2 months from its termination, he/she will provide the Municipal Library in Prague with the text inspired by the stay that the Municipal Library in Prague, through the project " Prague City of Literature", will be authorized to use to promote Prague's residential stays. The Municipal Library in Prague will enter into a license agreement with the Resident for the purpose of using the text in electronic as well as printed version.

Provided services:

The accommodation and travel expenses are covered by Prague City of Literature; the residents will also receive a scholarship of CZK 15,000 (approx. €600 per month).

Call for applications for residential stays for the year 2025

Do you have a breathtaking project that you would like to work on in Prague? The Prague City of Literature project offers writers and translators the opportunity to live and work in the beautiful surroundings of the Old Town of Prague, where historical architecture mixes with the lively pace of a modern city.

This call is valid for eight two-month residencies for the year 2025, taking place on the following dates:

  • January, February
  • March April
  • may June
  • July August
  • September October
  • November – December 15

The application deadline is 8/20/2024, 11:59 PM CET .

The results of the selection procedure will be announced by 31 October 2024.  

Required documents for application:

Selection criteria:

  • basic knowledge of English
  • at least one already published literary work (not private editions) or two already broadcast or published radio plays or one already realized or published theater play or at least one translated work by a Czech author
  • willingness to participate in local literary life (readings by authors, school discussions, discussions and activities organized by the organizer of the stay or connected to cultural events in the city)
  • work on a literary work during the stay
  • cultural interest in a place
  • an author who has already received a scholarship cannot apply again
  • the resident undertakes to provide MKP with a text inspired by this stay during the residential stay, or no later than 2 months after its end, which MKP will be able to use for the promotion of Prague residential stays through its project. MKP will conclude a license agreement with the resident for the use of this text in electronic and printed form

Conditions of stay:

Accommodation, travel and a monthly stipend of CZK 15,000 (approx. EUR 600) are paid to the resident.
