We Accept

Dragonblade Publishing welcomes compelling stories with unforgettable characters, immersive worlds, and satisfying happily-ever-afters. Our publishing interests include historical romance, romantasy, paranormal romance, and select fantasy and mystery genres.

We are currently accepting submissions in the following categories:

  • Historical Romance: Historical periods, including Viking, Regency, Georgian, Tudor, Highlander, Medieval, Victorian, Roman, and Edwardian. For Dragonblade’s purposes, historical settings are defined as those before the 20th century. We do not accept Westerns or Amish fiction at this time.
  • Time Travel Romance: Stories with historical romance elements.
  • Historical Fiction: Stories with a strong romantic focus.
  • Historical Mysteries: Mysteries with romantic elements.
  • Romantasy: Stories blending fantasy and romance, including historical romantasy.
  • Vampire Romance
  • Werewolf Romance
  • Witch Paranormal Romance
  • Ghost Paranormal Romance
  • Dark Romance: Romance with a dark tone or themes, including stories incorporating fantasy elements.
  • Cozy Mysteries with Magical Elements
  • Fantasy Mysteries
  • Ghost Fantasy Fiction: Ghost-centered fantasy stories, including those set in small towns. Historical settings are not required.
  • Fantasy Adventure Fiction

A happily-ever-after (HEA) ending is required, regardless of genre.

All Voices Welcome

We encourage submissions from BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ authors. As an OwnVoices publisher, we also welcome stories that reflect the author’s own identity, culture, and lived experiences.

Our Policy on AI-Assisted Writing

AI-assisted writing is prohibited. For submission purposes, Dragonblade defines AI-assisted writing as any text, including phrases, prose, paragraphs, passages, or chapters—generated by an AI program to construct a novel or story.

This restriction does not prohibit established editing tools, such as Microsoft Word’s Editor, Grammarly, or similar programs, when used to check or correct human-written text. It does prohibit using generative AI features within those tools to create or rewrite story content.

By submitting to Dragonblade Publishing, the author or submitter confirms that the manuscript is entirely human-written and contains no AI-generated story content.

Asimov’s pays 8-10 cents per word for short stories up to 7,500 words, and 8 cents for each word over 7,500. We seldom buy stories shorter than 1,000 words or longer than 20,000 words, and we don’t serialize novels. We pay $1 a line for poetry, which should not exceed 40 lines. We buy First English Language serial rights plus certain non-exclusive rights explained in our contract.
