The submission you're submitting is for consideration of our RS24 Annual Print Edition only. If you want to submit for our online edition, please submit a standard submission here. 

Works accepted for publication in our annual print edition will also be published online at a later date. The print edition will sell for a fixed price per issue, plus shipping and handling costs. If your work is accepted for publication in the print edition, you will receive one free copy in addition to payment. Payment for this edition is $250 per poetry, short story, visual artwork, or essay acceptance. The submission fee per work is $5. 

For visual artwork, please submit a high-resolution jpg or png suitable for CMYK printing parameters. If the work is intended to be full page, you must include bleeds color information. Please understand that some color variation will occur in printing. River Styx Magazine is not responsible for printing errors that occur due to lack of printer guidance. Visual artwork will be printed as a full-color insert. 

Work submitted to River Styx must be previously unpublished in print or online.

Please include a word count and short bio in your cover letter.

We will read simultaneous submissions, but ask that you inform us of such and notify us immediately if your work is accepted elsewhere.

Expect a decision by the middle of January. Please do not query us on the status of your submission until after January 15th.

Writers and artists whose work is selected for publication in the print edition will be notified by the end of January and an announcement will be made on our website and social media accounts. 

 

• Work submitted to River Styx must be previously unpublished in print or online. This includes social media posts.
• We accept poetry, prose, creative nonfiction, short play, and multimedia submissions electronically via Submittable.
• Prose pieces should be typed, double-spaced, and page-numbered. Send no more than one short story or essay per submission. Stories/essays of 500 words or fewer may be sent in groups of up to three.
• Send up to five poems per submission.
• Translations are welcome if permission has been granted from owner of copyright.
• We will read simultaneous submissions but ask that you inform us of such and notify us immediately if your work is accepted elsewhere.
• Expect up to five months for a decision. Please do not query before five months have passed.
• No e-mail submissions of any kind will be considered. If you wish to submit electronically, please use Submittable.
• We no longer accept hard copy submissions.
• All submissions will be considered for our online magazine. We no longer publish a print edition.
