2025 SHORT STORY COMPETITION – INFORMATION AND RULES
‘Making Waves’
COMPETITION TITLE: ‘Making Waves’. Entries are welcome from anyone around the world age 16 and up.
ENTRY CLOSING DATE: 12 noon on March 28th 2025, for both postal and electronic entries. Entry forms can be
downloaded from the festival website at: www.foweyfestival.com
SUBMISSION: There is no minimum word count, however a maximum of 1,500 is applied. NB: If that is exceeded, the
entry will be disallowed. All entries can be in any prose style but must be written in English. Postal entries must be
submitted as typed manuscripts. Required formatting is double line spacing. Emailed entries are preferred.

Short Story Competition, 4 Quiller Couch Way, Fowey, Cornwall PL23 1DN. NB: Each entry sent by post must be
accompanied by an entry form.
Authors may enter the competition once only.
ENTRY FEE: £10. Any profits from the competition will go to the Festival fundraising fund. Payment for entries can be
made via bank transfer or by sending a cheque in pounds sterling, to the above address. Full details can be found on
the entry form, which can be downloaded from the Festival website.
Entries will not be returned. Please keep a copy. No corrections or alterations can be made after receipt of your
submission.
Entries must be entirely the work of the entrant and must not have been previously published in print or online (all
methods and platforms), or broadcast, or have been commended, longlisted, or shortlisted in another writing
competition. Any entry found to have been plagiarised will be disqualified. Simultaneous submissions are welcome,
but please let us know as soon as possible if your story is to be published elsewhere, has won a prize or has been
longlisted or shortlisted in another writing competition.
Entries will be read and judged anonymously. The entrant’s name and any personal information about the entrant
should only appear on the entry form and not anywhere on the story submission.
If you require acknowledgement of your postal entry, ideally please supply an email address for the Festival to send
the acknowledgement to. If that is not possible, please enclose a self-addressed and stamped postcard marked
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT. Online entries will be automatically acknowledged via email.
PRIZES: First prize: £200 Second prize: £100
Winners will be notified in the middle of April 2025. A formal presentation will be made at the 2025 du Maurier
Fowey Literary Festival (May 9th – 17th with the presentation date to be finalized). The winning entries will be
published on the Festival website.
The du Maurier Festival Society reserves the right to use the author’s material in any related publicity during the
period of the festival.
The Judge’s decision is final, and no individual correspondence will be entered into.
