Chester Cathedral Young People’s Poetry Competition

We are delighted to launch the 2022 Young People’s Poetry Competition on the theme of Awakening (poems of up to 40 lines).

There are two age categories: 16-18 and 19-25.

Prizes
First prize – National Book Token of £30 for each category
Second prize – £20
Third prize – £15

Poems will be judged by Manchester-based writer, teacher and performer Fran Pridham.

Winners will be announced in late August, with a prize-winners’ reading event on Zoom on Wednesday 7 September 7th at 7.30pm.

Winning poems will be published on our website.

Competition Judge – Fran Pridham

Fran is a Manchester-based writer, teacher and performer. Her first poetry pamphlet Red Jam and her book The Language of Conversation were both published in 2000. For over twenty years, she ran a writer’s workshop for young people and currently runs adult workshops in the Manchester area. She has created a poetry trail at the Manchester Poetry Festival, and continues to be published in a variety of poetry magazines. As a Teacher Trailblazer she has written resources for The Poetry Society to inspire young people to write and participated in the winners’ writing week for Foyle Young Poets.
