Sentinel Literary Quarterly Poetry Competition

Closing date: 31st January, 2021.
Details: This competition is for original, previously unpublished poems in English language, on any subject, in any style up to 50 lines long. You may also enter a visual poem if the image will fit into a single page. Poems posted on members-only non-public groups for review/critique as part of the creative process are not deemed to have been previously published. Poets of all ages, gender or nationality living in any part of the world are eligible to enter.
Prizes: £250 (1st), £125 (2nd), £75 (3rd), £30 x 3 (High Commendation),
£20 x 3 (Commendation), 3 x SLQ Paperback (Special Mentions)
Fees: £5/1, £8/2, £10/3, £12/4, £14/5, £16/7, £22/10)
Results: 10 March, 2021
- All placed poems will receive first publication in Sentinel Literary Quarterly Magazine (Online and Print)
- All published poets will each receive a free copy of the paperback magazine.
- We will enter the first prize winner in The Forward Prize for Best Single Poem 2021 for a chance to win £1,000.00
Judge:
Oz Hardwick is a European poet, photographer,
occasional musician, and accidental academic, whose work has been
published and performed internationally in and on diverse media. His
poetry collections include The Lithium Codex, The House of
Ghosts and Mirrors, The Ringmaster’s Apprentice and The
Illuminated Dreamer. His prose poetry chapbook Learning to
Have Lost (Canberra: IPSI, 2018) won the 2019 Rubery
International Book Award for poetry, and his most recent publication
is the prose poetry sequence Wolf Planet (Clevedon:
Hedgehog, 2020). He has also edited or co-edited several
anthologies, including The Valley Press Anthology of Yorkshire
Poetry (Scarborough: Valley Press, 2017) with Miles Salter,
which was a UK National Poetry Day recommendation, and The
Valley Press Anthology of Prose Poetry (Scarborough: Valley
Press, 2019) with Anne Caldwell. Oz is Professor of English at Leeds
Trinity University, where he leads the postgraduate Creative Writing
programmes.
